J.V. NEEDHAM 16-BORE SINGLE-BARRELLED ROTARY-UNDERLEVER HAMMERGUN, serial no. 97, circa 1875, 30in. black powder only damascus barrel, with faceted breech-end, short sighting flat engraved 'J.V. NEEDHAM.', 2 1/2in. chamber, bored approx. true cyl., carved fence, non-rebounding back-action sidelock, border engraving, signed 'BIRM'M', retaining very slight traces of colour-hardening and finish, 14in. stock including 1 1/4in. wooden extension, splinter fore-end with horn finial and cross-pin release, weight 5lb. 3oz.
